What to do in Lanzarote as a couple depends less on your hotel than on the time of day: the island is at its best first thing at the Manrique houses, at midday in a winery and late in the afternoon out at sea or on Famara beach. Here are the plans that genuinely work for two, with prices, days and what is worth knowing before you book. If you are travelling with children, the Lanzarote with kids guide is the one you want; for a night out, see things to do for adults.
The loveliest free sunset, according to the tourist office itself, is a walk along Famara beach when low tide coincides with sunset: the wet sand acts as a mirror. Check the tide table before you go. And do not swim on the central stretch: Famara has strong currents and a history of drownings; if you go in, do it near the Caleta or where there is a lifeguard.
From the sea, a detail few people mention: boats from Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero face south-east, so the sun sets behind the Los Ajaches hills, not on the horizon. In winter, Playa Blanca is better placed to watch the sun drop into the sea. At the end of October the clocks go back and sunset comes an hour earlier: check your pick-up time.
| Month | Sunrise | Sunset | Daylight |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 07:49 | 18:19 | 10 h 30 min |
| February | 07:34 | 18:44 | 11 h 11 min |
| March | 07:05 | 19:03 | 11 h 58 min |
| April | 07:29 | 20:20 | 12 h 51 min |
| May | 07:03 | 20:39 | 13 h 36 min |
| June | 06:55 | 20:54 | 13 h 59 min |
| July | 07:05 | 20:55 | 13 h 50 min |
| August | 07:23 | 20:35 | 13 h 12 min |
| September | 07:39 | 20:00 | 12 h 21 min |
| October | 07:55 | 19:25 | 11 h 30 min |
| November | 07:17 | 18:00 | 10 h 43 min |
| December | 07:40 | 17:59 | 10 h 18 min |
Canary time in mid-month, calculated for the centre of the island. In Playa Blanca and El Golfo the sun sets a few minutes later.
| Boat | From | Duration | Price from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunset with dolphins and transfer | Puerto del Carmen | 2 hours | €53 |
| Biosfera Jet at sunset | Puerto del Carmen | 2.5 hours | €52 |
| Electric catamaran at sunset | Puerto Calero | 2.5 hours | €75 |
| Private sailing boat | Playa Blanca | 1.5–4.5 hours | €280 |
| Private catamaran with drinks | Puerto del Carmen | 2 hours | €500 |
The €53 trip has the most reviews (more than 3,000), but a lower score (4.2). For something calmer, the quiet electric catamaran from Puerto Calero (12 people maximum, 4.7) is worth the difference. The Biosfera Jet leaves at 18:00 from April to October and at 16:00 from November to March, with cava and pastries. Dolphins are never guaranteed, and on no legal boat do you swim with them. Bring a jacket: it gets cool on the water once the sun goes down.
If you want a whole day without children around, Catlanza runs a sailing trip to Papagayo for ages 13 and over only from Puerto Calero (4 hours, lunch and transfer, €85; €60 for teenagers): a way to share a boat without families around. More options in boat trips and sunset cruises.

What the listings do not tell you:
The artist's houses are the ideal morning plan for two: quiet first thing, beautiful at any hour. The Fundación César Manrique in Tahíche (10:00–17:30) is his house built over five volcanic bubbles; the Casa-Museo in Haría (10:30–17:30) was his last home, in the valley of palms. They cost €10 each or €17 for both with the Fundación's combined ticket; the Fundación is private and not part of CACT. The whole route is in the César Manrique guide.
LagOmar, in Nazaret, is not a Manrique work, but it is a house carved into the rock that couples love. It offers an "Early Experience" visit before opening to the public, for 10 people at most, for €35. To round off a day in the north, the Mirador del Río (€9, 10:00–17:00) looks across to La Graciosa from the clifftop.

Lanzarote Sunset Experience with dolphin spotting
4.7 (86)from €75
The island's most special evening out is Noches de Jameos, every Friday of the year at Jameos del Agua: a self-guided visit to the lava tube after dark, dinner in the restaurant (sittings from 18:30 to 20:30) and a concert beside the lake from 22:30 to 23:15. The set menu costs €98 per person (vegan €88). Book through CACT; your table is only held for 15 minutes, so do not be late, as the drive from the south of the island is a long one.
At the moment, in autumn, CACT also schedules one-off concerts at Jameos and in the Cueva de los Verdes, which are the only way to see the cave at night. Check the CACT events calendar.
The "dinner on the volcano" sold as an evening tour (€134, 5 hours) is a group excursion run by an agency, with pick-up, the volcano route, sunset and a three-course dinner at shared tables. It is not an official product: Manrique's El Diablo restaurant only opens during park hours (09:30–15:45) and does not take reservations. If what you want is the volcano without the crowds, CACT's Insólita Montaña visit (Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 08:45, €59.90) includes areas closed to the standard visit, the Montaña Rajada viewpoint and a tasting with Lanzarote wine. More in the Timanfaya guide.
