If you're looking for a jet ski in Lanzarote, the island is simpler than the adverts make it look: two companies with their own fleets, Paracraft and H2O Sports, and two departure points, Puerto del Carmen and Marina Rubicón. The agencies along the promenade resell those same trips.
You don't need a licence because you're never let loose on your own: it's either a buoyed circuit or a line behind an instructor. The price depends on the duration and the route. And if you want to reach Papagayo by jet ski, start in Playa Blanca, not Puerto del Carmen.
Paracraft charges per jet ski (single, or double with two people on board); H2O charges per person. A 40-minute double jet ski with Paracraft works out at €80 a head.
| Duration | Paracraft (per jet ski) | H2O Sports (per person) | What the time covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 min | €56.82 single · €66.29 double | from €70 | Short ride near the harbour |
| 40 min | €130 single · €160 double | from €120 | Guided safari (Paracraft) or out to Playa Quemada (H2O) |
| 60 min | — | from €160 | Puerto del Carmen – Puerto Calero – Playa Quemada |
| 2 h | €230 single · €260 double | from €250 | Each company's long route |
Agencies have advertised €60 per jet ski for 20 minutes, €100 for 40 and €145 for an hour, on routes that don't always match those of the company that owns the jet skis: if you see a 30-minute slot, ask which route it is.
H2O charges €5 per person for a hotel pick-up.
Double jet ski, half the price
On Paracraft's safaris the double jet ski costs only €30 more than the single (€160 against €130 for 40 minutes). As a couple, you save €100 compared with two jet skis.

Playa Chica, on Paseo Pila de la Barrilla, has been Paracraft's base since 1998, and H2O also leaves from Puerto del Carmen. It's the easy departure if you're staying in Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise or Arrecife: anyone selling "jet ski Costa Teguise" picks you up there and brings you here.
The short routes head towards Puerto Calero and Playa Quemada. H2O's descriptions don't match their names: the one-hour "Papagayo" route, by its own wording, stops at Puerto Calero and Playa Quemada, and the 2-hour "South route" is described as heading east towards Playa Honda, El Cable and Arrecife.
Papagayo is not 40 minutes from Puerto del Carmen
If an advert promises Papagayo in 40 or 60 minutes from Puerto del Carmen, be sceptical. Leave from Marina Rubicón; if you book the 2-hour route, ask beforehand where it goes.

Puerto del Carmen: 40-Minute Jet Ski Safari on Playa Chica
4.7 (13)from €160
From Marina Rubicón, Paracraft runs two routes at the same prices as in Puerto del Carmen (€130 single, €160 double for 40 minutes; €230 and €260 for 2 hours): one towards the Papagayo coves and one towards the Pechiguera lighthouse. It's the way to see those white-sand coves in just 40 minutes.
Rental jet skis can't land on the beach: you see Papagayo from the water. To set foot on the sand, drive there (€3 per car, card only) or take a boat trip with a swim stop; more in the beaches guide.
GetYourGuide also lists a departure from Puerto Calero to Papagayo: check the meeting point and how much time you actually spend on the jet ski in the listing.
No, not for the two formats the tourist operators sell. Spain's Royal Decree 259/2002 allows hourly hire without a qualification on a buoyed circuit or on a guided excursion behind an instructor. Day hire, going out on your own, does require a boating qualification. The rules also describe how a safari works:

And licence-free boats
Since 1 October 2026 motorboats can no longer be hired without a qualification; jet skis were never part of that exemption. To ride on your own, the quick route is the Spanish "licencia de navegación" (navigation licence): 2 hours of theory and 4 of practice, no exam, from 18 (16 with parental consent). It covers jet skis and boats up to 6 m, in daylight and within 2 miles of a port or shelter.

Driver: 18. At 16 or 17 you can drive with consent signed by your father or mother and a copy of their ID card or passport, which you must be able to show. Bring it printed.
Passenger: H2O doesn't take children under 8, pregnant women or people with back problems.
Weight: Paracraft allows up to 120 kg on a single jet ski and 150 kg for the two people combined on a double; H2O sets 150 kg. When it's windy, Paracraft may lower those limits on the day.
What to bring: swimwear and a T-shirt, which Paracraft requires under the life jacket. H2O includes a wetsuit, life jacket and locker, and asks for a passport or ID card.
How to book without surprises
The 20-minute ride is a taster. The 40-minute safari is a proper trip along the coast: the one worth doing if you want to see more than open water. The 2-hour one is for people who have ridden jet skis before; when the trade wind blows the sea gets choppy and two hours of bumps take their toll on your back.

Paracraft Lanzarote has been at Playa Chica since 1998 and has a second base in Marina Rubicón; per-jet-ski prices and rules at watersports-lanzarote.com. Its weak point: no cancellations.
H2O Sports Lanzarote leaves from Puerto del Carmen, charges per person, offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before and takes groups of up to 8. It shows 4.6 out of 5 from 1,389 Google reviews, many of them for its buggies (h2olanzarote.com).
For Papagayo, Paracraft from Marina Rubicón. For a ride from Puerto del Carmen with room to change your plans, H2O. More in our review of the jet ski companies.

Jet skis run all year, but the wind is in charge: the north-east trade wind blows on 70% of days in July and 45% in January, so summer brings choppier seas. The water is around 18 °C in February and March and 23 °C in September. More in Lanzarote weather.

Driving time without traffic, calculated with OSRM on OpenStreetMap. Add 20–30 % in summer and at rush hour; at Timanfaya the queue of cars at the gate can add a lot more.
From €56.82 for 20 minutes on a single jet ski with Paracraft (€66.29 for a double). The 40-minute safari costs €130 or €160; H2O charges from €70 per person for 20 minutes.
Not on a buoyed circuit or a guided excursion with an instructor, which is what's sold to tourists. To go out alone and hire by the day you need a qualification, such as the Spanish navigation licence.

Yes, from Marina Rubicón (Playa Blanca) on the 40-minute safari. From Puerto del Carmen, the 40- and 60-minute routes don't get there; on the 2-hour route, check where it goes.
Both companies with their own jet skis leave from Puerto del Carmen and Marina Rubicón. Costa Teguise and Arrecife are pick-up areas: H2O takes you to Puerto del Carmen for €5 per person.
Paracraft doesn't accept cancellations: if the sea forces a cancellation, ask there and then for another date. H2O and the agencies offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
