Buggies Lanzarote is a good choice if you are staying in the south or centre of the island and want one of the cheapest guided two-seat buggy tours: on its website it costs €130 per vehicle for 2 hours, less than the platforms charge for similar tours. Our verdict in one sentence: very good value for money and guides, with the drawback that it does not publish cancellation terms.

Watch the name: there are agencies and websites with almost identical names (Lanzarote Buggy Tours, buggylanzarote.com) that are not this company. This is the one in Puerto Calero marina, with the website buggieslanzarote.com. The full picture is in buggy companies in Lanzarote.

What Buggies Lanzarote offers

All departures are guided, in convoy, with stretches of dirt track and road. Prices are per vehicle, not per person.

Tour Duration Days Price on its website
Volcano Run 2 h Every day €130 per buggy
Volcano Run 3 h Every day €160 per buggy (2 people)
Land & Sea: jet ski + buggy 3 h Tuesdays and Fridays €269 for 2 people
VIP Road Experience 1 h By phone No published price

2-hour route: La Geria and La Asomada

It leaves Puerto Calero along the tracks behind Puerto del Carmen and passes through Tías, Güime, San Bartolomé, Masdache and Montaña Blanca. It stops for coffee at a winery in La Geria and returns via La Asomada.

3-hour route: out to La Santa

It heads down coastal tracks to Playa Quemada, climbs to La Asomada, passes the Volcán del Cuervo and Mancha Blanca and drops down a track to La Santa, with views of La Graciosa, El Islote and Montaña Roja. It returns via Soo and some lava caves, with a stop and a small tasting at a La Geria winery. Only this route reaches the north-west coast: if you are torn between the two and the scenery is what matters to you, it is €30 well spent.

The listing for the one-hour VIP Road Experience mentions the Volcán del Cuervo, Mancha Blanca, Femés, Yaiza, El Golfo, Los Hervideros and La Geria. All of that does not fit into an hour from Puerto Calero: if you are interested, phone and ask about the actual route.

Does Buggies Lanzarote go into Timanfaya?

Not on tracks, and no buggy does: in Timanfaya National Park you can only drive on the authorised roads. Buggies Lanzarote's routes pass through the surrounding area (Volcán del Cuervo, Mancha Blanca), in the Los Volcanes Natural Park. To see the Montañas del Fuego from the inside you need the €30 ticket, booked online for a time slot, which we explain in Timanfaya.

Prices: own website versus platforms

Here booking direct wins. Buggies Lanzarote charges €130 for 2 hours and €160 for 3, and takes €10 off if you book online. On GetYourGuide the island's most-reviewed buggy tour starts from €150, but it is run by a different operator, H2O Sports. A Gibraltar-based agency, TravelON, advertises a product called "Buggies Lanzarote" at €150 for a two-seater and €200 for a four-seater; this company only advertises two-seaters, so always check who is leading the convoy before you pay (we explain this in our review of TravelON).

What the platform does give you is free cancellation up to 24 hours before on its main product, and reviews from verified buyers. If that matters more to you than €20 or €30, look at these options (all from other operators):

Requirements: licence, children and clothing

  • Driver: car driving licence (B) and 2 years' experience, according to all its listings. Bring the original licence.
  • Children: it only has two-seat buggies and does not publish a minimum height. Spanish traffic law requires a child restraint for children under 1.35 m, which is why other operators set that height for two-seaters. Ask beforehand; with young children, look for a four-seat family buggy in buggy tours in Lanzarote or see ideas in Lanzarote with kids.
  • Clothing: closed shoes, clothes you do not mind getting dirty and a jacket from October to May. Goggles are provided; face scarves are sold at the office because dust is the most common complaint, so bring a buff from home.

Reviews: what travellers say

On Tripadvisor it averages around 4.7 from more than 1,200 reviews. What comes up again and again in its favour: friendly, fun guides (one is named over and over), the off-road sections and the scenery.

What comes up against it: older reviews about poorly maintained buggies (gear problems, a handbrake that did not work, a clutch hard to reach for shorter drivers), including one headlined as a warning about dangerous vehicles. Those complaints concern manual buggies; the fleet advertised today is automatic Can-Am Maverick, so check the date of each review. Dust and cold on the higher ground also feature a lot.

Puerto Calero24 min20 km9 min6 km25 min25 km18 min18 km

Driving time without traffic, calculated with OSRM on OpenStreetMap. Add 20–30 % in summer and at rush hour; at Timanfaya the queue of cars at the gate can add a lot more.

The booking system is TuriTop, an external platform. A leisure booking for a fixed date carries no 14-day right of withdrawal in Spain: what protects you are the seller's terms, which is why it pays to ask for them first.

Alternatives to Buggies Lanzarote

  • From Costa Teguise or the north: H2O Sports and OK Lanzarote run the northern route (Guatiza quarries, Mala dam, Peñas del Chache). Comparison in buggy companies.
  • From Puerto del Carmen: Puerto Calero is close by; you can also book the jet ski and buggy package with other operators, as we explain in jet skis.
  • From Playa Blanca: LanzaBuggy, based in the municipality of Yaiza, runs family routes towards La Geria and Los Hervideros.
  • In Puerto Calero, without a buggy: the submarine leaves from the same marina; see our review of Submarine Safaris.
