Our verdict in one sentence: Submarine Safaris does what it promises well, an hour at around 30 m depth in a real submarine, and it is one of the few operators on the island where booking direct is cheaper than on the platforms. What it cannot control is the sea: some days the water is murky and there are few different fish.
Verdict
4.3/ 5
A serious operator, with an 18.5 m submarine, duplicated systems and a surface control boat, that has completed more than 52,000 dives between Lanzarote and Tenerife. Clear pricing, free cancellation up to 24 h and a free bus from the three main resorts. We take points off for the price for one hour, the patchy visibility and the photo sales on board.

What Submarine Safaris offers
The company, Submarine Safaris SL, operates in Lanzarote from Puerto Calero marina (between Puerto del Carmen and Playa Quemada) and has a second submarine in Tenerife. The Lanzarote one is the Sub Fun Tres: built in Finland, 18.5 m long, 106 tonnes, 44 passenger seats and 22 portholes plus two domes at either end. It can descend to 60 m, but the normal dive stays at 25–30 m and settles on the seabed beside sunken ships.
The trip lasts one hour including boarding, about 50 minutes underwater, with an audio guide in several languages and a dive certificate with your name at the end. The cabin stays at surface pressure: you feel nothing in your ears and there is no seasickness. It sails 6 days a week, and 7 during the summer holidays; outside summer there are no dives on Sundays.
All the practical details (what it is like inside, timetable, how to get to Puerto Calero) are in our Lanzarote submarine guide. Here we focus on whether it is worth booking with them and how.
No other passenger submarine is advertised in Lanzarote. It is not the only one in the Canaries: the same company operates in Tenerife, and Gran Canaria has its own in Puerto de Mogán.
Prices: direct versus platforms
This is one of the few cases where the operator's website wins:
| Where | Adult | Child |
|---|---|---|
| Submarine Safaris website, online | €61.75 | €39.90 (2–14) |
| Desk in Puerto Calero | €65 | €42 |
| GetYourGuide | €65 (4.6, 1,513 reviews) | — |
| Civitatis | €65 (8.9/10, 98 reviews) | — |
| Excursions Tickets Direct | €65 | — |
| TravelON | €65 | €42 |
| Viator (version with pick-up) | €69 (4.4, 505 reviews) | — |
The operator's own website saves €3.25 per adult compared with GetYourGuide and €7.25 compared with Viator, and already includes the free bus. GetYourGuide makes sense if you want all your excursions in one app, with whatever cancellation the listing states (we explain this in our GetYourGuide review). Viator adds nothing for those extra €4.
Some local agencies advertise this same submarine with deals below the official fare and transfers included. If you see one, compare what it includes and its cancellation terms before paying; our reviews of TravelON and Excursions Tickets Direct explain what to look for in local resellers.

Lanzarote: Real Submarine Dive
4.6 (1,513)from €65
What travellers say
The dive scores 4.6 from 1,513 reviews on GetYourGuide, 8.9/10 on Civitatis and 4.4 on Viator. On Tripadvisor these themes keep coming up:
- For: a great family outing, no sense of being cramped or claustrophobic, the wrecks are interesting and the crew speak several languages and look after passengers well.
- Against: the water is sometimes murky, you nearly always see the same 4 or 5 species, the pass by the wrecks is brief, there are photos and souvenirs for sale, and the price feels steep for one hour.
Our reading: the complaints are about the sea more than the operator. With a calm sea visibility improves; if the day starts with a heavy swell, ask whether it is worth changing the date.
How to book and cancel
How to book the submarine
- Book on the official website: €61.75 per adult and €39.90 per child aged 2 to 14, up to 4 h before departure.
- Tick the bus pick-up if you are coming from Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen or Playa Blanca; you are given the time when you book.
- If your plans change, cancel free of charge up to 24 h before departure.
- If you are travelling with a baby, ask about the bus for companions: under-2s cannot board and one adult stays at the marina.
From Puerto del Carmen you can also arrive by sea on the Líneas Romero water bus (€11 one way), or take guaguas (local buses) 24 (Arrecife) and 25 (Costa Teguise). Operator contact: +34 928 512 898 or info@submarinesafaris.com.
A trip cancelled because of sea conditions is not covered by the EU maritime passenger regulation, which excludes tourist excursions: any refund depends on the terms of whoever sold you the ticket. Keep the cancellation notice in writing.

Driving time without traffic, calculated with OSRM on OpenStreetMap. Add 20–30 % in summer and at rush hour; at Timanfaya the queue of cars at the gate can add a lot more.
Alternatives
- To see fish while swimming yourself: diving or snorkelling; the sculptures of the Museo Atlántico can only be visited by diving or snorkelling with a dive centre.
- For a day at sea without going to the bottom: boat trips and catamarans to Papagayo, several of which also leave from Puerto Calero.
- For small children on a windy day: Aquarium Lanzarote in Costa Teguise, cheaper and shorter.
- More family ideas in Lanzarote with kids.
