Headout in Lanzarote: reviews and whether it is worth booking

Headout is a legitimate US platform, but in Lanzarote it has little to offer: about 20 excursions, most with 0 or 1 reviews, no parks, and prices that are the same as or higher than on other platforms. One tour, moreover, cannot be cancelled.

What is Headout? A booking platform for tickets and excursions based in the United States. Our verdict on Headout in Lanzarote: there is no reason to book here. What it sells on the island you can find at the same price or less on other platforms with thousands of reviews and, in one case, with better cancellation terms.

Headout is not a partner of this website and we earn nothing whether you book with it or anywhere else. We wrote this review because many people come across it when searching for excursions and ask whether it is reliable.

  • A real company, founded in 2014, rated 4.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot
  • Free cancellation 24 h before on most excursions
  • Same prices as other platforms for boats and ferries
  • A Timanfaya half day for €50, though with a single review

  • No parks, Rancho Texas, submarine or buggies
  • A company based outside the European Union

What Headout offers in Lanzarote

Headout's catalogue on the island revolves around two things: Timanfaya and the sea. This is what it had on sale:

Excursion Price
Grand tour of Timanfaya, Lago Verde and Jameos €85
Full Island Highlights, full day €100
Timanfaya with transfers €50
Timanfaya and Lago Verde €63
Hiking in Timanfaya €44
Timanfaya at sunset with dinner on the volcano €134
Day at Papagayo / Papagayo mini-cruise €66 / €35
La Graciosa: ferry with transfers / cruise with lunch €40 / €66
Lobos and dolphins €72
Dolphins: speedboat / sunset sailing boat €35 / €53
Whale watching in a small group / private €75 / €750
Try dive / SSI dives / freediving €90 / €130 / €99
Puerto del Carmen–Puerto Calero boat €11

The family classics are missing: no Aqualava, no Aquapark Costa Teguise, no Rancho Texas, no submarine and no buggies.

A telling detail: Headout marks its own Lanzarote page so that search engines do not index it. That is why you will not see it in Google results.

Prices: Headout versus other platforms

Comparing the same type of excursion on the same day, most prices match. The differences:

Excursion Headout GetYourGuide Others
Full day Timanfaya + Jameos + Cueva de los Verdes €100 (0 reviews) €89 (2,873 reviews) Viator €90, Civitatis €99
Timanfaya, half day €50 (1 review) €59 €59 on Viator and Civitatis
Timanfaya at sunset with dinner €134, non-refundable €134, 24 h cancellation —
La Graciosa cruise with lunch €66 (0 reviews) €66 (2,110 reviews) Viator €66
La Graciosa ferry with transfers €40 €40 —
Papagayo mini-cruise €35 €35 Viator €35

The €50 Timanfaya half day is the only lower price, but with a single review you cannot tell what it includes or who runs it. Everything else is the same or worse.

What travellers say

In Lanzarote there is very little to read. The excursions with the most reviews are the dolphin and whale speedboat (109 reviews, 3.9), small-group whale watching (53, 4.9), the sunset speedboat (52, 3.8), the sunset sailing boat (50, 4.4), private whale watching (50, 4.9) and Lobos with dolphins (48, 4.0). Twelve of the twenty have 0 or 1 reviews.

Compare that with GetYourGuide, where the La Graciosa trip with lunch has more than 2,100 reviews and the best-selling buggy more than 5,500. With so little data, on Headout you cannot tell a good excursion from a bad one.

How to book and cancel on Headout

Most Lanzarote excursions on Headout can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before. The small-group and private whale-watching trips require 48 hours.

Before paying, check the total on the last step: Headout's terms allow it to add a service fee at checkout. And remember that fixed-date excursions do not carry the 14-day right of withdrawal: the only protection is each product's cancellation policy.

If something goes wrong, complain to Headout in writing first and keep the reply. It is a US company, so the network of European Consumer Centres will not be able to help as it would with an EU company.

Alternatives to Headout in Lanzarote

  • GetYourGuide: 328 activities, the same or better prices and thousands of verified reviews.
  • Civitatis: the leading Spanish-language platform, with plenty of Spanish reviews.
  • Viator: a catalogue similar to GetYourGuide's, part of the Tripadvisor family.
  • Tiqets: for parks and Rancho Texas.

If you already know what you want to do, start with the guide: things to do in Lanzarote, boat trips or dolphins and whales.

Is Headout reliable?

It is a real company, registered in Delaware (United States) with an office in New York, founded in 2014. In Lanzarote the problem is not reliability but the catalogue: few excursions, hardly any reviews and some that cost more than on other platforms.

What is Headout?

An online platform for booking tickets and excursions. It does not organise the activities: it resells them from local companies. Ask which one runs your excursion before paying.

Can you cancel for free on Headout?

On most Lanzarote excursions, up to 24 hours before; on two whale-watching cruises, 48 hours. The Timanfaya sunset excursion with dinner cannot be cancelled.

Is Headout cheaper than GetYourGuide in Lanzarote?

Hardly ever. Boats and ferries cost the same; the full island day is €100 against €89. Only the Timanfaya half day is cheaper (€50 against €59), with a single review.

Does Headout sell tickets for Rancho Texas or the water parks?

No. Rancho Texas is on Tiqets and the park's website; Aqualava and Aquapark on GetYourGuide, Tiqets or at the ticket office.
