Paragliding in Lanzarote means a tandem flight with a pilot, mainly from the Risco de Famara and other slopes that change with the wind. It costs from €90 (20 min) to €220, and the trade wind decides the day, not you.

A paragliding flight in Lanzarote is a tandem flight: you're clipped to the pilot, who flies the wing from start to finish. You don't need any experience; you just have to accept that the booking depends on the wind. The classic spot is the Risco de Famara, the cliff of around 600 m with Famara beach at its foot, but the companies take off wherever the wind allows on the day.
The three schools with published tandem prices are Famaraíso, LavaFly and Lanzafly. Below you'll find their direct prices, what's included and which one suits you.
Paracraft is not paragliding
Plenty of people search for "Paracraft Lanzarote" thinking it's paragliding. Paracraft is a water sports company in Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca: it does parasailing (you hang from a parachute towed by a speedboat, 10 min at 80–100 m, from €57.03 per person) and jet skis. If that's what you're after, it's in water sports and jet ski.
Direct prices from each school. Check whether photos and video are included, because it changes the comparison.
| School | Short flight | Medium flight | Long flight | Photos and video |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Famaraíso | Discovery, up to 20 min: €140 | Adrenaline, up to 20 min: €160 | Deluxe, 30–40 min: €200 | Included |
| LavaFly | 20 min: €90 | 30 min: €120 | 45 min: €140 · 60 min: €220 | +€20 (included with the 60 min) |
| Lanzafly | Junior (under 12s): €90 | Classic, 20–30 min: €120 | First Class, about 45 min: €180 | +€20 |
The cheapest is LavaFly's 20-minute flight: €90, or €110 with photos and video. Famaraíso is dearer, but always includes the photos and video, and its Deluxe gets priority for the sunset flight when the weather plays along. On 20-minute flights the difference between schools is mainly price; with 30–45 minutes you have time to cruise along the coast, and from Famara you can see the islets of the Chinijo Archipelago.
On GetYourGuide the tandem paragliding flight over the volcanoes and the Atlantic costs from €120 (20–40 min), rated 4.9 from almost 200 reviews, the most reviewed one. There's also a Discovery flight from €120 and an Action flight from €160, both with few reviews so far.

Based in the village of Caleta de Famara, at the foot of the Risco. It's a registered adventure tourism company (TA-3-0008637.23) and its founding pilot has more than 20 years' experience. When it's too windy to fly, the same school gives kitesurfing lessons. Prices at famaraiso.es.
It lists the most flying areas: Mala, Playa de Órzola, La Graciosa, Risco de Famara, Tenesar, Playa Quemada and La Asomada–Mácher. The meeting point depends on the day's wind. If flying isn't possible, they postpone the flight and, if you can't find another date, refund the full amount. Details at lavaflylanzarote.com.
The family option: its Junior flight is for under-12s from 20 kg, with parental consent, for €90. It publishes a passenger weight range of 20 to 120 kg and also hires out hang gliders. More at lanzafly.es.

Lanzarote: Tandem Paragliding over Volcanoes & the Atlantic
4.9 (198)from €120
In Lanzarote a 15–20 min tandem flight is sold from €175 on GetYourGuide and from €179 on other websites, taking off depending on the wind at Órzola, Famara or Mala (north), El Cuchillo (centre), or Mácher and Playa Quemada (south).
Watch the weight: the published limit is 80 kg, much lower than for paragliding. Minors can fly with parental consent and a minimum of 40 kg. If you're over 80 kg, paragliding is your option.
All free flight in Lanzarote depends on the direction and strength of the trade wind, the north-easterly. It blows far more in summer than in winter: on 45% of days in January and 70% in July. That's why the take-off slope changes from day to day. More on the climate in the weather guide.
In practice:
Timanfaya, from below
If you're picturing yourself flying over the Montañas del Fuego: Timanfaya National Park bans hang gliders, paragliders and similar craft. Flights "over volcanoes" pass over other volcanic areas of the island. To see Timanfaya, have a look at the park guide.

None of the flying areas the schools publish is in Playa Blanca or Puerto del Carmen. What's on offer on those beaches is parasailing behind a speedboat (Paracraft and H2O Sports). If you're staying in the south and want real paragliding, the closest areas are Playa Quemada and La Asomada–Mácher, used by LavaFly and the hang gliders when the wind comes from that side. If the wind sends everyone north, it's off to Famara.

Driving time without traffic, calculated with OSRM on OpenStreetMap. Add 20–30 % in summer and at rush hour; at Timanfaya the queue of cars at the gate can add a lot more.
Without a car, "guagua" (bus) route 20 runs from Arrecife to Caleta de Famara, and route 31 links it with Costa Teguise. Ask the school beforehand where the meeting point will be, because with a northerly wind it may not be at Famara.
If you fancy a swim at Famara while you wait for your flight, only go in near Caleta or where there's a lifeguard: the beach has strong currents. More about the area in the north of Lanzarote and in our reviews of the paragliding schools. For more adrenaline, see things to do for adults or buggies.
A tandem flight costs from €90 (20 min with LavaFly, photos extra) to €200 (Famaraíso's 30–40 min Deluxe, photos included). LavaFly's special 60-minute flight costs €220.
Mainly at the Risco de Famara, in the north. Depending on the wind, flights also go from Mala, Órzola, Tenesar, La Graciosa, Playa Quemada and La Asomada–Mácher.
No. Paracraft does boat-towed parasailing and jet skis in Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca. Paragliding is run by Famaraíso, LavaFly and Lanzafly.
Lanzafly accepts 20 to 120 kg. The other schools don't publish it, so ask when you book. For hang gliding the maximum is 80 kg.
Yes. Lanzafly has a Junior flight for under-12s from 20 kg, with parental consent, for €90.
It's postponed. LavaFly refunds the full amount if you can't find another date. Book at the start of your holiday to leave yourself time.
