Aqualava Water Park is the water park in Playa Blanca, in the south of Lanzarote, and the one you want if you are travelling between November and March: it opens every day of the year and its pools are heated. It has been run by the Relaxia Hotels & Resorts group since it opened in July 2012, with a design inspired by the Timanfaya volcanoes and a crab called Timi as its mascot.

What almost no ticket listing tells you: it is a small park. There are four zones and a single tower of big slides. If your children are between 3 and 11, it fits very well; if they are teenagers after twenty different slides, Aquapark Costa Teguise is bigger, although it closes in winter and its water is not heated.

Who Aqualava is worth it for

For

  • Open 365 days a year with heated water: the safe choice from November to March.
  • Very handy if you are staying in Playa Blanca: it is in Montaña Roja, a few minutes away.
  • Children's area (Corsario Bay) designed for children from 60 to 150 cm.
  • Free bus three days a week from Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero.
  • Sunloungers, parasols and Wi-Fi included in the ticket.

Against

  • Small: Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly say you can get round the whole park quickly.
  • Few mid-level slides between the children's area and the big tower.
  • The wave pool fills up at every session.
  • Many reviews find €30 per adult expensive for the size.
  • No outside food: you have to eat inside.

Our verdict: for a family with young children staying in the south, it is a well-rounded, hassle-free day. For teenagers or adults after an adrenaline rush, in season the Aquapark in Costa Teguise is better value, as is the water area at Rancho Texas, which comes included in the animal park ticket.

Aqualava ticket prices

The park's official prices for visitors:

Ticket type Price
Adult (12 and over) €30
Child (3 to 11) €20
Infant (0 to 2) Free
Over 65 €23
Canary Islands resident, adult / child €20 / €15
1- or 2-week pass (adult / child) €120–180 / €90–140

A family of two adults and two children pays €100 at the ticket office. The park mentions discounts for families and for people with disabilities but does not publish the figures: ask at the ticket office before you pay. The resident rate (for Canary Islands residents only) requires a Spanish ID card, NIE or proof of registration in the Canaries.

The weekly pass only pays off if you plan to go four times or more: four adult visits add up to €120, the same as the cheapest pass.

Aqualava opening hours: open all year

Aqualava opens every day, winter included:

  • Summer: 10:00–18:00.
  • Rest of the year: 10:00–17:00.

The park does not publish the exact dates when the hours change; check the day you are going on aqualava.net.

A useful tip for picking your day: Canary Islands residents pay €20 and €15, so at weekends the park fills up with local families. If you can choose, go on a weekday, when the slides are quieter.

Aqualava slides and zones

The park is divided into four zones:

Timanfire

The slide tower at the heart of the park. The official website mentions five slides; some visitors count four. Minimum height is 120 cm and armbands are not allowed in this zone. You cannot go down wearing sunglasses, a watch, jewellery or a camera.

Corsario Bay

The children's area, with small slides and a giant octopus, for children from 60 to 150 cm. It is the part families with young children praise most.

Magma River

A lazy river for drifting along on a rubber ring. Handy for adults who want to rest without losing sight of the children.

Aqualava Beach

A saltwater wave pool; the park claims it is the only one on the island. It runs in sessions: according to many visitors, about 10 minutes every hour. Check the schedule at the entrance and get there a few minutes early, because it fills up at every session.

Food, lockers and rules at Aqualava

Food: no outside food or drink is allowed, and nothing made of glass. Inside there is Timi Kitchen, a buffet restaurant with live cooking (the menu is on the official website), and the Timi Shop. Factor that spending into your budget for the day.

Included services: free sunloungers and parasols, Wi-Fi, showers and changing rooms, lifeguards, first aid and wheelchair access. Lockers cost €5 to hire and the photo service is extra. There is free parking nearby.

Rules worth knowing:

  • Under-14s must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Swimwear only; sun-protection tops are allowed.
  • You must shower before using the pools.
  • The slides are not recommended for pregnant women or people with heart conditions.
  • No animals, except guide dogs.

If something goes wrong, the park has official complaint forms (hojas de reclamación), as Canary Islands consumer law requires.

How to get to Aqualava: free bus, local bus and car

Aqualava is in the Montaña Roja development, west of central Playa Blanca. From any hotel in Playa Blanca you can get there in a few minutes by car, taxi or the local bus, line 30.

Aquapark Costa Teguise43 min41 km22 min20 km3 min2 km9 min7 km

Driving time without traffic, calculated with OSRM on OpenStreetMap. Add 20–30 % in summer and at rush hour; at Timanfaya the queue of cars at the gate can add a lot more.

Aqualava free bus

The park runs a free bus for tourists (not for residents) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; in July and August, Monday to Friday. It does not pick up in Playa Blanca, because the park is already there.

How to use the free bus

  1. Pick a Monday, Wednesday or Friday (Monday to Friday in July and August).
  2. Find your stop on the official bus timetable.
  3. Costa Teguise: first pick-up at 08:35 at Hotel Beatriz; the other stops between 08:40 and 08:50.
  4. Puerto del Carmen: from 09:10 (Hotel Beatriz) to 09:40 (La Isla y El Mar), via the Casino and the CC Biosfera.
  5. Puerto Calero: 09:45 at Hotel Hesperia and 09:55 at the roundabout.
  6. Ask the driver for the return time: the official timetable does not give it.

For a family of four without a car, this bus saves a fair bit on taxis. If you are staying in Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise, plan Aqualava for one of those three days. More ideas for getting around without hiring a car in Lanzarote without a car.

By guagua (local bus)

The park lists lines 60, 161, 30, 01 and 03. The useful ones: the 60 links Arrecife and Playa Blanca (about 20 departures a day, Sundays included), the 161 comes from the airport via Puerto del Carmen, and the 30 is the local Playa Blanca line. From Costa Teguise you need to change from the 01 or the 03. Timetables at arrecifebus.com.

By car

Free parking next to the park. From Puerto del Carmen or Arrecife it is just over half an hour; from Costa Teguise, about three quarters of an hour.

Aqualava from Fuerteventura

If you are in Corralejo, the park sells a day trip with the Corralejo–Playa Blanca ferry, bus and entry: €55 adults and €35 children. It runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; the meeting point is the ferry company's office in Corralejo port at 09:15, and you need your passport. It works out cheaper than buying the ferry and the ticket separately. More on the crossing in our Fuerteventura guide and our comparison of ferries to Fuerteventura.
