Aqualava reviews: how good is the Playa Blanca water park?

Aqualava delivers what it promises: open all year with heated water, and good to families with young children. The main complaint is size: €30 per adult for a park you can get round in no time.

Our view of Aqualava in one sentence: it is a safe bet with children aged 3 to 11 in any month, but not the park that gives you the most for your money. This page reviews Aqualava as a business (prices, rules, service, cancellation); for opening hours, zones and getting there, see the practical Aqualava guide.

Who is behind Aqualava

Aqualava Water Park belongs to Relaxia Hotels & Resorts, a hotel chain that opened the park in July 2012 in Montaña Roja, the western side of Playa Blanca. According to press coverage of the opening, the investment was around €6 million and included geothermal heating for the pools and solar panels.

You can tell a hotel chain runs it: the park is designed for resort guests (bus to the hotels, weekly passes) and the management is orderly. Direct bookings go through FareHarbor, and they answer on WhatsApp at +34 673 808 560 and at reservas@aqualava.net.

What Aqualava offers

Four volcano-themed zones: the Timanfire slide tower (120 cm minimum), the Corsario Bay kids' zone for children from 60 to 150 cm, the Magma River lazy river and Aqualava Beach, a saltwater wave pool. Inside there is a restaurant, Timi Kitchen, and a shop.

As well as the day ticket, the company sells:

  • One- or two-week passes for tourists: €120–180 adult and €90–140 child. Only worth it if you will go four days or more.
  • Excursion from Fuerteventura: Corralejo–Playa Blanca ferry, bus and entry for €55 adult and €35 child, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Its sales text still mentions Naviera Armas, which now operates as Baleària; confirm which office at Corralejo port to report to at 09:15 and bring your passport. More in the Fuerteventura guide.
  • Group packages from 12–15 people, and gift cards.

Aqualava prices: official website or platforms

The official rate is €30 adult (12 and over), €20 child aged 3 to 11, free for 0 to 2 and €23 for over-65s. Canary residents only pay €20 and €15 with a DNI, NIE or certificate of registration (empadronamiento). The park mentions discounts for families and for people with disabilities but does not publish the amount: ask before paying.

What travellers say about Aqualava

On Tripadvisor the same praise keeps coming up: the warm water, how convenient it is if you are staying in Playa Blanca, the cleanliness, and how well it works with children under 12. On the platforms the rating is decent, no more: 4.0 out of 5 on GetYourGuide from 359 reviews and 3.9 on Tiqets from 96.

The complaints repeat too:

  • Size. Many describe it as the size of a football pitch and complain that there are few slides.
  • Age gap. There are no intermediate slides between the children's ones and those on the big tower, so 8–10-year-olds can be left in between.
  • Wave pool. It runs in short sessions, about ten minutes an hour according to visitors, and fills up every time.
  • Temperature. Despite the heating, some reviews headline that the water should be warmer.
  • Price. The most common criticism: €30 is a lot for what there is.

A useful pattern: Canary residents pay €20 and fill the park at weekends. On a weekday the slide queues are usually shorter.

Booking and cancelling at Aqualava

How to book Aqualava

  1. Pick the day: if you have no car and are staying in Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen or Puerto Calero, choose Monday, Wednesday or Friday (Monday to Friday in July and August), when the free bus runs.
  2. Buy on the official website (https://www.aqualava.net/en/) or, if you want to be able to cancel, on GetYourGuide or Tiqets.
  3. Find your stop's time in the official bus timetable (https://www.aqualava.net/pdf/free-bus-schedule.pdf): the first pick-up is 08:35 in Costa Teguise and 09:10 in Puerto del Carmen. The return time is not printed: ask when you board.
  4. Bring cash or a card for food: no food or drink can be taken in.

If something goes wrong, first ask for a solution at the ticket office and keep the reply in writing. The park has official complaint forms (hojas de reclamación), compulsory in the Canary Islands, and you can write to taquilla@aqualava.net.

Alternatives to Aqualava

Is Aqualava worth it?

Yes, if you are travelling with children aged 3 to 11, staying in the south or visiting between November and March, because it opens in winter with heated water; the other warm-water option in those months is Aqua Rancho, inside Rancho Texas. For teenagers after lots of slides it falls short.

Is Aqualava cheaper on the official website or on GetYourGuide?

It costs the same: €30 per adult. The difference is cancellation: GetYourGuide and Tiqets allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before, Civitatis does not.

Does Aqualava give refunds if it rains?

No. Its rules exclude refunds for rain, for weather-related closures and for power cuts.

Can I take food into Aqualava?

No. Food, drink and glass objects are not allowed in; the Timi Kitchen restaurant is inside.

Is Aqualava owned by Relaxia?

Yes. The park belongs to Relaxia Hotels & Resorts and opened in July 2012.

Does the free Aqualava bus run every day?

No. Only Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and Monday to Friday in July and August. It is for tourists, not residents, and does not pick up in Playa Blanca.
