Lanzarote excursion deals and First Minute tours: where you really save

Lanzarote hardly ever has real deals: the same excursion costs the same on GetYourGuide, Civitatis, Viator or at the company's own office. You save by choosing well what to book, how to get around and what to do for free.

If you are hunting for excursion deals in Lanzarote, the first piece of news is good and bad at once: the platforms sell at the operator's price. The half-day Timanfaya tour costs €59 on five different websites and the La Graciosa ferry €29 on seven. There is no hidden bargain on another site, but you do not pay more for booking on a platform either.

Where you do save is in your decisions: ticket on your own or a tour, hire car or transfer, what you do for free, and which cancellation terms you accept. Here they are, with numbers.

"First Minute" tours in Lanzarote: what it really is

Plenty of people search for "first minute tours Lanzarote" expecting an early-booking discount. In Lanzarote, First Minute is a company: First Minute Travel S.L., based in Arrecife, which trades as "First Minute Transfer" and "First Minute Travel". It runs airport transfers and coach excursions with pick-up in Arrecife, Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, Puerto Calero and the cruise port.

Its published prices (adult / child):

Excursion Times Adult Child
Short South Tour 09:00–14:00 €59 €49
South Tour 09:00–16:00 €65 €49
North and South Tour — €75 €45
César Manrique Tour 09:00–18:00 €83 €49
Grand Tour 09:00–18:30 €87 €55
Premium Tour — €99 €63
Teguise market — €15 —

They sit in the same range as the big platforms, with no early-booking discount. Before comparing one Grand Tour with another, check whether the entry tickets are included: that is what changes the final price most. The company's website is https://www.firstminute-transfer.com/lastminute-trip.asp.

Platform or direct: almost always the same price

Submarine (Puerto Calero) €65 (€61.75 online) €65 €65 €69
Aqualava €30 €30 €30 (no free cancellation) —

The real differences are in the terms, not the price. Civitatis sells the Aqualava ticket without free cancellation; GetYourGuide and Tiqets sell the same €30 ticket with free cancellation up to 24 hours before. We compare them platform by platform in reviews of companies and platforms.

Where booking direct does save you money

  • Submarine: Submarine Safaris charges €61.75 if you book on its website and €65 at the ticket office or on GetYourGuide (€69 on Viator). The full story is in the submarine in Lanzarote.
  • Buggies: Buggies Lanzarote takes €10 off per buggy when you book online, and if you drive yourself to Puerto Calero you save on the pick-up, which other companies charge at €5 per person. More in buggy tours in Lanzarote.
  • Tourist centres (CACT): tickets for the Jameos, Cueva de los Verdes, Timanfaya and the rest are bought at https://ventaonline.cactlanzarote.com (see our review of the CACT). There is no multi-centre pass; the only combo is Jameos + Casa de los Volcanes for €22.40, just €5.40 more than the Jameos alone (€17).
  • Two parks on Tiqets: the Aquarium + Aquapark Costa Teguise combo drops from €44 to €39.60 (−10%). It is the only real two-park discount on the platforms; the other combos save 5%.

Resident rates: only if you are a resident

The most eye-catching prices are not for visitors. A Lanzarote resident pays €2 for Timanfaya and a resident of the Canary Islands €24; tourists pay €30, including visitors from mainland Spain. On the ferries, the 75% discount is for Canary Islands residents only. The bus is free for Canary residents with the Bono Residente Canario.

To pay the resident rate you must show a physical Spanish ID card (DNI) or foreigner's ID number card (NIE), with a certificate of registration (empadronamiento) if the address is not shown. No platform sells resident rates: if you live in the Canary Islands, always buy direct.

Ticket on your own or a tour

Timanfaya + Jameos + Cueva de los Verdes€64 in tickets + car€89–100 with coach and guide

Volcanoes on footVolcán del Cuervo free / Tremesana free€44–47 guided hike
Teguise marketfree + bus or car€15–20 for the transfer

The big north-and-Timanfaya tour costs €25–36 more than the three tickets bought separately. With a car, for two or more people it works out cheaper to go independently. If you are travelling alone and without a car, the tour is worth it because it handles the time slots for you. We go into detail in Timanfaya and Lanzarote without a car.

Cheap and free things to do in Lanzarote

  • The national park's guided routes (Tremesana and the short Ruta del Litoral): the only guided walks inside Timanfaya, and free. Places open about a month ahead, are for over-16s and go fast. It is the biggest legitimate saving on the island compared with a paid hike, which in any case runs through the neighbouring natural park. See hiking.
  • Mancha Blanca Visitor Centre: free, 09:00 to 16:00, on the LZ-67.
  • Casa Museo del Campesino (Mozaga): the only Manrique centre with no entry fee.
  • Papagayo on foot: cars pay €3 at the barrier (card only), but on foot or by bike you get in free. See beaches.
  • Civitatis free tours in Arrecife and Teguise, with thousands of reviews. Ask when you book how the tip works.

Is it cheaper in low season?

Not on the published prices. Lanzarote's companies do not advertise lower winter prices, and some winter rates, such as one bike-hire shop's October-to-April tariff, are actually higher. If you want to pay less, what works is what is on this page: tickets on your own, direct bookings where there is a discount and free plans, not waiting for winter.

Watch out for cheap deals that end up costing more

  • Cancellation with a fee: with TravelON, a paid excursion cancelled in time still loses a €25 fee, and ferries and parks are not refunded. On a €59 excursion that is 42%.
  • The rating matters: the Puerto del Carmen dolphin speedboat costs €35 but scores 3.8 out of 5 from more than 2,300 reviews. The ones rated 4.7 to 4.9 cost a little more.

What is First Minute in Lanzarote?

It is an Arrecife agency, First Minute Travel S.L., which runs transfers and coach excursions with hotel pick-up. It is not a type of discount. Its Grand Tour costs €87 (children €55).

Is it cheaper to book Lanzarote excursions direct?

Hardly ever: the platforms sell at the operator's price. The exceptions are the submarine (€61.75 online on its own website), buggies with €10 off online, and resident rates, which are only sold direct.

Is there a pass for Lanzarote's tourist centres?

No. There are only single tickets and the Jameos del Agua + Casa de los Volcanes combo (€22.40). The five main centres add up to €82 per adult.

What are the cheapest excursions in Lanzarote?

The La Graciosa ferry (€29 return), the boat between Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero (from €11), LagOmar (€10) and the Papagayo mini-cruise (€35). Free: Tremesana, Mancha Blanca and the Casa Museo del Campesino.

Can I pay the resident rate as a tourist?

No. You have to prove residence with a physical DNI or NIE (plus the empadronamiento certificate if needed). Tourists, including those from mainland Spain, pay the standard rate.
