CACT Lanzarote: review, tickets and how to buy for the Cabildo's centres

The CACT in Lanzarote run seven of the Cabildo's (island council's) centres, among them Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua and the Cueva de los Verdes. The sites are excellent; the shop is strict: single tickets, no combined ticket, and at Timanfaya and the Cueva de los Verdes a fixed time slot and no refunds.

The CACT centres are the best reason to hire a car in Lanzarote and, at the same time, a very inflexible ticket shop. If you know how their online sales work (which centres have a set time slot, what happens if you arrive late, what documents the resident rate requires), you will have no trouble; if not, you can lose €30 at the Timanfaya barrier.

What the CACT are and which centres they run

CACT stands for Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo: a public body of the Cabildo de Lanzarote that manages the spaces César Manrique and his team created on the volcanic landscape. Its centres today:

  • Montañas del Fuego, in Timanfaya, with the Ruta de los Volcanes (the volcano coach route) and the El Diablo restaurant.
  • Jameos del Agua, with the Casa de los Volcanes museum.
  • Cueva de los Verdes, adapted by Jesús Soto.
  • Mirador del Río and Jardín de Cactus, in the north.
  • Casa Museo del Campesino (Mozaga), free.
  • Castillo de San José – MIAC, Arrecife's museum of contemporary art.

What is not CACT, although many people think so: the Fundación César Manrique in Tahíche and the Casa-Museo in Haría (private, with their own tickets), the LagOmar Museum (private), the camels at the Echadero (run by Yaiza council) and the Museo Atlántico, which the CACT stopped running in 2020.

  • The five main centres (Timanfaya €30, Jameos €17, Cueva €17, Mirador €9, Cactus €9) add up to €82 per adult.
  • The only combo on sale is Jameos + Casa de los Volcanes, €22.40: just €5.40 more than Jameos alone. Allow an extra hour.
  • The cheapest ticket after the Campesino is the MIAC, €5.40, and it is the one that stays open latest (11:00–18:00).

Why there is no combined ticket

Many older guides still advertise multi-centre passes. Today the shop offers only single tickets, even though its web address still says "entradas y bonos" (tickets and passes). According to the CACT's manager, the passes were dropped in 2020; other media link it to the last big price rise, of up to 60%. The Montañas del Fuego, for example, has gone from €12 to the current €30. If anyone offers you a "CACT pass", be wary.

Resident rates

These apply only to people who live in the Canary Islands, not to visitors. There are two levels: Canary Islands residents (around 20% less) and Lanzarote residents (between €1 and €3 per centre). Residence is proven at the ticket office with a physical document: a Spanish ID card (DNI) or foreigner's ID (NIE), or a passport or EU ID plus a certificate of municipal registration (empadronamiento) if the address is not shown. For children up to 13 without a DNI, a registration certificate. Without a valid document, the reduced ticket is cancelled with no refund and you have to pay the full price. If you are visiting family who live on the island, let them buy their own ticket: €2 instead of €30 at Timanfaya.

Insólita experiences and events

Small-group visits before opening time:

  • Insólita Montaña (Timanfaya): €59.90, Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 08:45. Includes a stop at the Montaña Rajada viewpoint, closed on the standard visit.
  • Insólita Jameos del Agua: €46.97, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 09:45, 2 hours, including the inside of the Auditorium and the Jameo de la Cazuela.
  • Insólita Jardín de Cactus: currently shown as unavailable in the shop.

On Fridays, Noches de Jameos: visit, dinner and concert by the lake from €88 (standard menu €98). Concerts and events: https://www.cactlanzarote.com/en/events.

How to buy and what happens if you cancel

The only official shop is https://ventaonline.cactlanzarote.com/es/entradas-y-bonos. Timanfaya and the Cueva de los Verdes are sold only there, for a specific day and time. The other centres also sell at the ticket office, but the CACT themselves warn that some have none and recommend buying online.

How to organise your CACT tickets

  1. Buy the two timed tickets first: Montañas del Fuego and Cueva de los Verdes. Each slot has a capacity limit: if a time does not appear, it is full.
  2. Then buy the untimed ones (Jameos, Mirador, Cactus, MIAC). They are valid for 3 months from purchase and have no slot.
  3. Download or screenshot the QR code at your hotel: mobile coverage is poor at some centres.
  4. One QR code per booking: the whole group enters together. If you will be going separately, make separate bookings.
  5. Arrive 15 minutes before your slot. Once your time has passed, entry is not guaranteed.

Customer service: info@centrosturisticos.com, phone 928 84 84 84 and the 901 200 300 helpline with WhatsApp, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 15:00. Sort out any questions before Friday. Prices and opening hours for all the centres: https://www.cactlanzarote.com/en/horarios-y-tarifas. The CACT website is new: links from older guides to individual centre pages may give an error.

Direct or through platforms: prices compared

No platform sells a stand-alone ticket to a CACT centre: not GetYourGuide, not Tiqets, not Civitatis. If you see "tickets" on a platform, they are excursions with transport and a guide that include the entry.

Option Price per adult What the extra pays for
Timanfaya + Jameos + Cueva, on your own €64 in tickets Car and fuel
Same day on a coach excursion €89–100 Transport, guide and handling of the time slots
Manrique route on your own (Campesino, Fundación, Mirador, Cactus, Jameos) €45 in tickets Car
Full-day César Manrique tour from €85 Transport and guide

For two or more people with a car, going independently is cheaper. Resident rates exist only when buying direct.

What travellers say

There is no rating of the CACT as a shop, but there is for the excursions that take you to its centres, and they are high: the Timanfaya, Jameos and Cueva de los Verdes tour has 4.5 out of 5 from more than 2,800 reviews on GetYourGuide, and the premium north tour 4.8. The centres are not the weak point.

The controversy has been about price: the rise in rates sparked protests from the island's travel agencies, which were left without passes for their customers. For visitors, the stumbles come from the terms: a missed slot or a resident rate without the right document is lost in full.

Alternatives

There is no alternative way into its centres, but there are other ways to organise your visit:

  • The complete route, private sites included, is in our César Manrique guide.
  • For the north without a car, the Lanzarote without a car guide explains which centres you can reach by guagua (bus); route 9 stops at Jameos del Agua.
  • If you would rather someone organised everything, look at the day tours of northern Lanzarote or the full catalogue on GetYourGuide.
  • Official tourist information (no ticket sales): Turismo Lanzarote.
Is there a combined pass or ticket for the CACT centres in Lanzarote?

No. Only single tickets per centre are sold. The only combo is Jameos del Agua + Casa de los Volcanes for €22.40. The five main centres cost €82 per adult.

Where do you buy CACT tickets?

At https://ventaonline.cactlanzarote.com/es/entradas-y-bonos. Timanfaya and the Cueva de los Verdes are sold only there, with a set day and time. The others also have ticket offices at some centres, but it is best to buy online.

Can I cancel or change a CACT ticket?

No. The shop accepts no changes or refunds. If you arrive late for your slot at Timanfaya or the Cueva, you can be refused entry with no refund.

How much does a Lanzarote resident pay?

Between €1 and €3 per centre (€2 at Timanfaya, Jameos and Cueva). Canary Islands residents pay around 20% less. A physical document must be shown at the ticket office; these rates do not apply to visitors.

Is the Fundación César Manrique a CACT centre?

No. The Fundación in Tahíche and the Casa-Museo in Haría are private and have their own tickets: €10 each or €17 for both.
