All three depend on the wind, so what matters is booking with some slack in your dates.

What each paragliding company offers

Famaraíso

Famaraíso is based in Caleta de Famara and registered as an active-tourism company (TA-3-0008637.23). Its founding pilot has more than 20 years' experience. Famara lies at the foot of the Risco, a cliff of about 600 m, and paragliders and hang gliders take off from there. When it is too windy to fly, the school gives kitesurfing lessons.

Published rates: Discovery, up to 20 minutes, €140; Adrenaline, up to 20 minutes, €160; Deluxe, 30 to 40 minutes, €200, with priority for sunset. Photos and video are included in all of them. Prices at https://www.famaraiso.es/booking/tandem-prices/

LavaFly Lanzarote

LavaFly is the most flexible on sites: Mala, the beach at Órzola, La Graciosa, the Risco de Famara, Tenesar, Playa Quemada and La Asomada or Mácher. The meeting point is decided according to the weather. It charges €90 for 20 minutes, €120 for 30, €140 for 45 and €220 for the one-hour "special" flight with photos and video; on the others, the photos and video cost €20. If conditions are not right, it postpones the flight, and if you cannot find another date, it refunds the full amount. Website: https://lavaflylanzarote.com/es/

Lanzafly

Lanzafly offers the Junior for under-12s (minimum 20 kg and parental consent) for €90, the 20-to-30-minute Classic for €120 and the roughly 45-minute First Class for €180. Photos and video, €20. It takes passengers from 20 to 120 kg and also offers hang gliding. Website: https://lanzafly.es/

Prices: direct versus platforms

Flight LavaFly Lanzafly Famaraíso
Short (20 min or less) €90 + €20 photos €90 (Junior, under-12s) €140–160, photos included

30–45 min €140 (45 min) €180 (First Class) €200 (Deluxe, 30–40 min)
1 h €220 with photos — —

To compare properly, add the photos: a short LavaFly flight with video comes to €110, against €140 at Famaraíso with everything included.

On GetYourGuide, tandem flights in Lanzarote start at €120, with the top-rated scoring 4.9 from 198 reviews. The tandem hang-gliding listing costs €175. Booking direct gives you access to the cheapest flights, at €90.

The wind is in charge: when and where you fly

Flights depend on the direction and strength of the trade wind, and the take-off site changes with it: one day the Risco de Famara, another Mala or Playa Quemada. There are no flights over Timanfaya National Park: its rules ban hang gliders, parachutes and the like.

The month-by-month climate is in our guide to Lanzarote weather, and what there is around Famara in the guide to the north.

Tandem hang gliding

If you prefer hang gliding, there are tandem flights of 15 to 20 minutes from €179 at Órzola, Famara, Mala, El Cuchillo, Mácher and Playa Quemada, depending on the wind. They require a minimum weight of 40 kg and a maximum of 80 kg, and minors need parental consent. For young children or anyone over 80 kg, Lanzafly's paragliding is the option.

What travellers say

None of the three has an independent rating on Tripadvisor or Google that is easy to compare. The most solid public reference is on GetYourGuide, where only customers who booked can review: the most-reviewed tandem flight scores 4.9 out of 5 from 198. If you look at other websites, be careful: some lists mention companies that no longer respond, such as Abubila Paragliding, whose website does not work.

How to book and cancel

How to book your flight

  1. Choose the company by what you want: price (LavaFly), photos included and sunset (Famaraíso) or a flight with children (Lanzafly).
  2. Check your weight against the company's limit and say if a minor is flying.
  3. Book for the first days of your trip: the meeting point depends on the wind.
  4. Bring a windproof layer: it blows harder on the cliffs than on the coast.

If the wind does not allow flying, LavaFly postpones the flight and, if there is no new date, refunds you. Famaraíso and Lanzafly do not publish their policy for these cases, so ask when you book.
