If you are looking for jet ski reviews in Lanzarote, the short answer is this: Paracraft is the best option for getting to Papagayo and for couples on a double jet ski, and H2O Sports is the most flexible if your plans might change, because it refunds you up to 24 hours before. Agencies and platforms resell trips from these two companies.

For

  • Neither requires a licence: you ride a marked circuit or in line behind an instructor
  • Paracraft: a double jet ski is only €30 more than a single
  • Paracraft: 40-minute route to the Papagayo coves from Marina Rubicón
  • H2O: free cancellation up to 24 h, and wetsuit, life jacket and locker included

Against

  • Paracraft does not refund you if you cancel or fail to show up
  • H2O charges per person: for a couple it works out considerably dearer
  • Strict weight limits (120 kg on a Paracraft single) that can be lowered in windy weather

What each company offers

Paracraft Lanzarote

Paracraft has traded as watersports-lanzarote.com since 1998 and presents itself as the island's first water-sports centre (the company's own claim). It has two bases: Playa Chica, on Paseo Pila de la Barrilla in Puerto del Carmen, and Marina Rubicón, in Playa Blanca.

It sells 20-minute circuit hire, 40-minute and 2-hour safaris, parasailing, inflatables and packages with parasailing or a buggy. From Marina Rubicón there are two routes: towards the Papagayo coves and towards the Pechiguera lighthouse.

Rules on its website: riders aged 18 or over (16 and 17 with parental consent), a maximum of 120 kg on a single jet ski and 150 kg combined on a double, and a T-shirt under the life jacket is compulsory. It warns that weight limits may be tightened in windy weather. The terms are at https://watersports-lanzarote.com/faq/.

H2O Sports Lanzarote

H2O Sports is the brand of H2O Actividades Acuáticas S.L. and departs from Puerto del Carmen. As well as jet skis it sells dolphin trips by RIB, catamaran trips, parasailing from €55, inflatables, wakeboarding and buggies. It also supplies the island's most-reviewed buggy tour on GetYourGuide.

Its jet ski trips take a maximum of 8 participants and include wetsuit, life jacket and locker. It does not accept children under 8, pregnant women, people with back problems or anyone over 150 kg. Bring your passport or ID card. Routes and prices at https://h2olanzarote.com/en/jet-ski-tour-lanzarote/.

Prices: direct versus agencies and platforms

Duration Paracraft (per jet ski) H2O Sports (per person)
20 min €56.82 single · €66.29 double from €70
40 min €130 single · €160 double from €120 (to Playa Quemada)
60 min — from €160
2 h €230 single · €260 double from €250

Paracraft does not make clear whether IGIC (the Canary sales tax) is added at checkout: check the total before confirming. H2O charges €5 per person for hotel pick-up.

For a couple, the sums change a lot: a 40-minute Paracraft double jet ski is €160 for both of you; with H2O, two people on the 40-minute route pay from €240.

Local agencies advertise €60 for 20 minutes, €100 for 40 and €145 for an hour. It looks cheaper, but their routes do not always match those of the company supplying the jet ski: ask about the departure point, the route and whether the price is per jet ski or per person.

On GetYourGuide, the 40-minute listing at Marina Rubicón starts from €130, the same as a Paracraft single booked direct; the Playa Chica one starts from €160, the direct price of the double. The platforms sell at the supplier's price (see our GetYourGuide review).

Safety and rules: what the law says

Jet ski hire in Spain is governed by Royal Decree 259/2002. Without a licence you can only ride a buoyed circuit or a guided excursion behind an instructor; hire by the day does require a qualification. Maximum 60 hp, 4 jet skis per instructor, 2 people per jet ski and a route registered with the Harbour Master. The text is at https://www.boe.es/buscar/act.php?id=BOE-A-2002-4919.

Both companies state that they hold liability and passenger insurance.

What travellers say

H2O shows an average of 4.6 from 1,389 Google reviews on its website, although most of the ones it displays are for its buggy excursions and praise the guides. Paracraft reproduces Tripadvisor reviews on its website, chosen by the company itself: recurring themes are the safety briefing, help with changing the date when the sea is too rough, and the sense that it is not cheap but is worth it.

In both cases these are reviews the company picks. On GetYourGuide, Lanzarote's jet ski trips score around 4.5–4.7 out of 5 from hundreds of reviews, and only people who have booked can leave one.

How to book and cancel

How to book without surprises

  1. Choose your departure point: Playa Chica if you are staying in Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise or Arrecife; Marina Rubicón if you are staying in Playa Blanca or want to see Papagayo.
  2. If your dates are not fixed, book with free cancellation: H2O direct or a platform listing that says so.
  3. Check the weight and age limits, and bring an ID card or passport (and the consent form if there is a 16- or 17-year-old).
  4. Arrive before your slot: the safety briefing is compulsory.

Paracraft accepts no cancellations, and no-shows lose the activity. H2O refunds you if you cancel 24 hours in advance. On the platforms, free cancellation depends on each product: check the listing before paying.

Alternatives

Without the speed, look at boat trips to Papagayo or dolphin watching. For buggy packages, compare first in our review of the buggy companies.

Paracraft does not do paragliding: its "flight" is parasailing, towed behind a speedboat. To actually fly, read our review of the paragliding companies. And for every route, price and age limit in detail, see the guide to jet skis in Lanzarote and to water sports.
