Buggy companies in Lanzarote: who runs the tours and which to pick

Behind the buggy tours in Lanzarote there are only a few companies with their own vehicles: Buggies Lanzarote, H2O Sports and LanzaBuggy. The rest are agencies that resell. A two-seater costs €130–200 per buggy; choose by where your hotel is and who actually runs the tour, not by the flashiest name.

If you are looking for buggy tours in Lanzarote, the important decision is not the brand in the advert but who supplies the vehicle and the guide. Our verdict in one sentence: book with a genuine operator in your area (Puerto Calero for the south and centre, Costa Teguise for the north), directly on its website if it publishes clear terms, or on a platform with free cancellation if it does not.

All tours run as guided convoys: nobody rents out buggies for you to drive on your own.

Score

Buggies Lanzarote
4/5Puerto Calero; €130 / €160 direct; no published cancellation terms
H2O Sports Lanzarote
4/5Northern route; most-reviewed tour on GetYourGuide; 24 h cancellation
LanzaBuggy
3.5/5Widest fleet and family buggies; prices not visible on its website
OK Lanzarote
3.5/54-seat buggies for children; free cancellation up to 24 h
Reselling agencies
3/5Same price or higher, plus an extra middleman

For

  • Similar per-vehicle prices across all companies
  • Different routes in the south (La Geria) and the north (Guatiza, Mala)
  • Four-seat buggies for families with young children
  • 24 h free cancellation with several operators and on GetYourGuide

Against

  • Near-identical names that blur operator and agency
  • Adverts implying you enter Timanfaya, which does not happen
  • Hotel pick-up often charged separately
  • Dust, wind and cold on higher ground

Operator or reseller: why it matters

The operator owns the buggies, the insurance and the guides; the agency sells its places, sometimes without saying whose. It matters because the reviews you read may be about another company, cancellation depends on two contracts, and the price rarely drops with a middleman.

The clearest case is Lanzarote Buggy Tours (buggylanzarote.com): its name sounds like an operator, but its website says it works with "a select group of local companies" and it is registered with a tourism intermediary licence (I-0004012.1). It is not the same as Buggies Lanzarote, the Puerto Calero company.

The buggy companies, one by one

Buggies Lanzarote (Puerto Calero)

In Puerto Calero marina since 2015. Only automatic two-seat Can-Am Mavericks: €130 for the 2-hour route and €160 for the 3-hour one, with €10 off online. On Tripadvisor it averages around 4.7 from more than 1,200 reviews. It does not publish cancellation terms. Full review in Buggies Lanzarote.

H2O Sports Lanzarote

A water-sports company (H2O Actividades Acuáticas S.L.) that also runs buggies and Rykers. It supplies the most-reviewed buggy tour on GetYourGuide: more than 5,500 reviews, averaging 4.6. Its "Wild North" route takes in the Guatiza quarries, the Mala dam, Peñas del Chache, Teseguite and the El Mojón quarry; the 3-hour version adds Charco del Palo. Drivers must be 20 or over with 2 years' licence, passengers 1.35 m or taller; helmet, windproof jacket and goggles included. Two-seater prices vary depending on where you look (€130–150 for 2 hours, €180–200 for 3). We review its jet skis in jet ski companies.

LanzaBuggy (Aventura LanzaBuggy)

Based at km 17 on the LZ-2 road, in Yaiza. It has the widest fleet: Can-Am Maverick Turbo and Maverick Trail, family buggies (road-only or mixed), Polaris Slingshot, Can-Am Spyder, trikes and quads. Drivers must be 21 or over with 2 years' licence, and there are at most two drivers per buggy. Its family routes cross Timanfaya by road towards La Geria and Los Hervideros. Prices do not appear in its website text: you have to go into its booking engine. Contact by WhatsApp on +34 663 852 941.

OK Lanzarote

Automatic 2- and 4-seat buggies on a northern route it advertises as "70% off-road" (Guatiza, Mala, Las Nieves, the Risco de Famara viewpoint). From €150 per buggy, optional pick-up at €5 per person from the main resorts and free cancellation up to 24 hours before. It sets no minimum height for the rear seats of the four-seater, which makes it useful with children. It is not clear whether it operates its own buggies or resells.

Agencies: Canco Lanzarote and Lanzarote Buggy Tours

Canco Lanzarote is an agency selling buggies from €130 to €220, quads at €100–110, Slingshots and trikes; it acknowledges that the minimum age for children depends on the operator. Lanzarote Buggy Tours sells from €105 to €210 per vehicle with pick-up from your accommodation. Always ask who operates the convoy.

Can-Am is not a company

Can-Am is BRP's vehicle brand: Maverick X3, Maverick Trail and Maverick Sport. When an advert says "Can-Am tour", it is telling you the model, not who organises it. The Maverick Turbos have around 173–175 hp, which is why they cost more (€210–240 per buggy).

Buggy prices in Lanzarote: direct and on platforms

What travellers say about buggy tours

On Tripadvisor and blogs the same themes recur, whatever the company: dust, wind and cold on the summits; vehicle condition, which varies; the pace of the convoy, set by the slowest buggy; and above all the guide, who decides the rating. Check the dates of reviews: old complaints about manual buggies say little about a new fleet.

How to choose a buggy company

How to choose and book

  1. Choose by your hotel: from the south and Puerto del Carmen, Puerto Calero or Yaiza; from Costa Teguise, the northern route.
  2. Check who operates: if the website is an agency, ask for the operator's name and look it up.
  3. With children: a two-seater usually requires passengers to be 1.35 m; below that, look for a four-seat buggy.
  4. Check cancellation before paying: 24 h free with OK Lanzarote, H2O and the main GetYourGuide tour; Buggies Lanzarote does not publish its terms.
  5. Bring your original licence, closed shoes, a jacket and something to cover your face from the dust.

If you want to add some sea, several operators sell jet ski and buggy packages; we compare them in jet skis. The general guide with routes and seasons is in buggy and quad tours in Lanzarote.

Where a buggy can go (and where it cannot)

No company drives on tracks inside Timanfaya National Park: there you may only use the authorised roads, and tours that "cross Timanfaya" do so on the public LZ-67 road. The dirt sections are outside the park, in La Geria, La Asomada, Playa Quemada or the northern quarries. If you want to see the volcano from the inside, that is the separate ticket we explain in Timanfaya.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best buggy company in Lanzarote?

It depends on where you are staying. For the south and centre, Buggies Lanzarote (Puerto Calero) has the best direct price; for the north, H2O Sports runs the most-reviewed tour on GetYourGuide. With young children, OK Lanzarote's four-seater (no minimum height in the back) or LanzaBuggy's family buggies, asking about the minimum height first.

How much is a buggy tour in Lanzarote?

Between €130 and €200 per two-seat buggy, depending on whether it is 2 or 3 hours; Maverick Turbos cost €210–240. It is per vehicle, not per person, and pick-up usually costs €5 per person.

Is Lanzarote Buggy Tours the same as Buggies Lanzarote?

No. Lanzarote Buggy Tours (buggylanzarote.com) is an agency that resells for several local companies. Buggies Lanzarote is the operator in Puerto Calero marina.

Are there buggy tours from Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca?

From Puerto del Carmen you have Puerto Calero close by and operators with pick-up. From Playa Blanca, LanzaBuggy (Yaiza) or any operator that collects from your hotel, usually for €5 per person.

Can you take a buggy through Timanfaya?

Only on the LZ-67 road, like any car. No buggy drives on tracks inside the national park.
