A Bodega La Geria tour is the best value way to see inside a Lanzarote winery: for €15 you walk the vineyard and the winery with a guide and finish with three wines. Our verdict in one sentence: it is worth it, especially at weekends, when El Grifo is closed to visitors, as long as you book early and you are not the one driving after the tasting.
The winery was founded by the Rijo family in 1896 and has belonged to the Melián family since 1993. It sells its wines under two labels, La Geria and Manto, and sits right on the La Geria road, surrounded by the pits and stone walls that made the landscape famous.

What the Bodega La Geria guided tour includes
The tour lasts about 50 minutes. It starts in the vineyard, continues through the winery and ends with a tasting of three wines. It runs in Spanish and English, and other languages can be requested.
The interesting part is outside. In La Geria every vine lives in a pit (hoyo) dug into the layer of volcanic ash (picón), which here is up to 3 metres thick, sheltered from the trade winds by a semicircular stone wall. That is why the vines are so far apart. Phylloxera never reached the Canaries, so the vines grow on their own roots, ungrafted. The star grape is Malvasía Volcánica, unique to Lanzarote.
To see the vines heavy with grapes, come between July and September (depending on the year), when the harvest is done by hand; in winter the vines are bare. The full background on the protected landscape is in our guide to La Geria and its wineries.
Tour and wine prices
The guided tour costs €15 per adult, IGIC (the Canary sales tax) included; under-15s go free. It is the cheapest full guided tour in the area: at El Grifo the guided tasting of five wines costs €30 and the longer Wine Lovers experience €50; at Stratvs, €25.
Bodega La Geria has no product of its own on GetYourGuide, so there is no platform price to compare: you book on its website. Some excursions stop "at a winery in La Geria" without saying which one; if you want this one specifically, go independently.
If you want to take a bottle home, prices in its online shop are roughly:
| Wine | Size | Price |
|---|---|---|
| La Geria Malvasía Volcánica dry | 75 cl | €16 |
| La Geria Malvasía Volcánica medium-sweet | 75 cl | €17 |
| La Geria Moscatel sweet | 50 cl | €20 |
| Manto Malvasía dry | 75 cl | €19 |
Opening times and how to book the guided tour
The office is staffed from 10:00 to 19:00. Tour slots change from day to day; in a normal October week there were departures at 11:30, 16:00 and 17:15 daily, at 15:00 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and at 12:45 on Saturdays. Check that week's calendar at https://www.lageria.com/calendario/ before planning your day.
How to book the tour
- Go to https://www.lageria.com/visitas-guiadas/ and choose language and date.
- Look for a slot early: places go on sale 12 days ahead, not a day more.
- If there are more than 8 of you, do not book online: email bodega@lageria.com.
- Check the change and cancellation terms in the booking itself before paying.
- Arrive a few minutes early and leave the pushchair in the storage area the winery provides.

Taberna La Cepa: the winery restaurant
On the same estate is Taberna La Cepa, open every day from 09:00 to 18:00, with the kitchen serving until 16:30. The menu is traditional Canarian: goat, chickpea stew (garbanzas), marinated pork (cerdo en adobo) and skewers.
It is small and worth booking on +34 828 180 501. That is a real advantage over the Bodegas Rubicón restaurant, which does not take bookings. The ideal plan: the 11:30 tour and lunch in the tavern.
How to get to Bodega La Geria
It is at km 19 on the La Geria road, in the municipality of Yaiza, right in the protected landscape. The main wineries on the wine route (LZ-30, between Uga and Mozaga) are 1 to 5 km apart, so you can combine two in a morning.

Driving time without traffic, calculated with OSRM on OpenStreetMap. Add 20–30 % in summer and at rush hour; at Timanfaya the queue of cars at the gate can add a lot more.
No guagua (as buses are called in the Canaries) reaches the La Geria wineries. Without a car, your options are a taxi or an excursion with pick-up; we explain how in Lanzarote without a car.
What travellers say
Bodega La Geria is listed on Tripadvisor but is not sold on GetYourGuide, so there are no verified-buyer ratings we can quote. Before booking, read the recent reviews on Tripadvisor or Google, sorted by date, and look for two things: whether they talk about the guided tour or only the shop and tavern, and which language the guide spoke.
Alternatives: other wineries and wine tours
- El Grifo: wine museum and the most complete experience (Wine Lovers, €50, 2 hours), but Monday to Friday only, and tastings are for adults only.
- Bodegas Rubicón: free entry to the estate and a shop tasting with no booking; guided tours at €22 and €40.
- Stratvs (Uga): tours every day for €25, with cheeses.
- Los Bermejos: guided tours are currently suspended while the winery relocates; the tasting terrace and shop remain open (check at losbermejos.com).
If you would rather not drive, GetYourGuide has walks through La Geria with tasting and pick-up, and a three-winery circuit with transport. None of them is a Bodega La Geria product, but they solve the car problem:
