Biosfera Express is the best option for getting to La Graciosa if your plans might change: the same price as the competition, unlimited free changes, free cancellation up to 24 hours before and a longer return timetable. Its limitation is that it runs only that one route, so do not look to it for Fuerteventura.

What Biosfera Express is

Biosfera Express is the brand of Graciosamar Cruceros S.L., a La Graciosa family business that also manages holiday apartments on the island. It does one thing: the ferry between Órzola harbour, in the north of Lanzarote, and Caleta de Sebo, La Graciosa's village and port. It currently sails with the Madre Consuelo and the Señor Luis.

The same company sells a day-long catamaran excursion around La Graciosa on GetYourGuide (hotel pick-up, ferry, a cruise along the south coast, lunch, anchoring off Playa Francesa, snorkelling and kayaking). The Biosfera Jet speedboat, which leaves Puerto del Carmen to see dolphins, is run by Lanzarote Sea Tours, whose website links to the Biosfera Express ferry. It is one of five Lanzarote boats on the official list of vessels authorised for whale and dolphin watching (more in dolphins in Lanzarote).

Biosfera Express timetable

Nine sailings each way, every day it publishes:

From Órzola From La Graciosa
08:00 · 09:00 · 10:30 · 11:30 · 13:00 07:00 · 08:30 · 09:30 · 10:30 · 12:00
16:30 · 17:30 · 18:30 · 19:30 15:30 · 16:30 · 17:30 · 18:30

There is a midday gap: no Biosfera boat leaves Órzola between 13:00 and 16:30, and none returns from La Graciosa between 12:00 and 15:30. Its website publishes no separate winter timetable; confirm when you book at https://biosferaexpress.com/en/.

Spanish large-family card holders get 20% or 50% off, and there are group fares. The ferry costs the same on its website, on GetYourGuide and on the other platforms. Biosfera Express or Líneas Romero

Both charge €29 return and take the same time. What differs:

Biosfera Express Líneas Romero
Sailings each way 9 8 to 10 depending on season
First boat from La Graciosa 07:00 08:00
Last boat from La Graciosa 18:30 17:00 from 27 October (up to 19:00 in summer)
Changes Free and unlimited Free; open ticket
Cancelling less than 24 h ahead No longer free 100% charged
Cancelling more than 24 h ahead Free Free
Child return €15 €16
Luggage No limit Up to 20 kg

The sailings are staggered: between the two companies there is a boat roughly every half hour between 08:00 and 13:30. But your return ticket is only valid with the company that sold it to you, so choose by the last boat that suits you. On the timetables published today, in winter Biosfera gives you an extra hour and a half on the island. The competitor's full review is in Líneas Romero.

Parking in Órzola

Biosfera advertises private parking on its GetYourGuide product, but its website does not explain where or on what terms; ask when you book. There is no record of any paid car park in Órzola: you park free on the street, which fills up early in high season. Romero's car park is only for its customers with a return ticket.

Without a car, Intercity Bus Lanzarote's number 9 guagua (bus) links Arrecife with Órzola in about 55 minutes. The last one leaves Órzola at 18:10, so the 17:30 Biosfera from La Graciosa is the last that lets you catch it comfortably. Visitors' cars cannot travel to La Graciosa. More in Lanzarote without a car.

Traveller reviews

On GetYourGuide, the Biosfera ferry scores 4.7 out of 5 from more than 400 reviews, and the Graciosamar Cruceros catamaran excursion 4.4 from more than 1,100.

What counts in its favour is not a review but its terms: changing your ticket free of charge is useful on an island where the north wind can upset plans. During strong coastal warnings, Biosfera and Romero have changed or cancelled sailings to La Graciosa; if that happens, contact the company to be rebooked.
